Makeup for a Special Occasion

Wedding season is here, Prom events are beginning to arrive, and Graduations are all upon us. The salon is going crazy with the excitement of the season. Snap shots and magazine photos arrive in hand as each woman comes into the salon knowing exactly how she wants her hair to look. But, not every salon offers a makeup artist on the premise.

Not to worry. Beauty Shop Buzz has provided for you a unique video tutorial to teach you how to create a really jazzy look for a special occasion. On our front cover you will see a video to click entitled Pretty Prom. Lancome makeup is the preferred selection for the makeup application that is designed to both last all night, and reflect the most desirable image from a photographer's eye.

What many women do not know to consider when applying makeup for an event in which many photos will be taken, is that photos capture something very different than what is seem with the naked eye. Light and reflection are always a consideration when a woman's face is being photographed.

The makeup suggested in the educational video clip can be duplicated by using your favorite brand, but you might want to watch the clip first to be certain of what to use, where, and why.

Weddings, Proms, and numerous special occasions are intended to be captured in a photograph that will tell the story you might have had too much fun to remember. You will be glad you gave special attention to a professional approach of applying your makeup.

Hope you have a fabulous event and capture pictures that will tell the story for years to come!

Primping

Timeless beauties. Throughout the history of Hollywood there have been women whose signature beauty has embedded its image forever in our memory. One common characteristic links these women together: their finicky arrangement of a look that set them apart from others.

Though women have always looked to famous public figures for role model images to mimic their own look after, never before have the effects of the media heightened the awareness and ability for women to achieve the extensive details to their beauty, as now.

Sex and the City introduced women to a variety of beauty choices, as each of the four women, Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte had a unique style that gave way to a vast audience to pick a favorite, and fashion themselves after that image.

With each season we were introduced to  yet another new beauty trick: Botox, sleek ironed hair, hair extensions, Brazilian waxing, and clothing fashions that were everything from elegant classic to down right avant-garde. An attitude about being a woman, whether married or single, took on a whole new image.

The American Idol hit evolved in its depiction of the creation of a star, as makeup and hair produced entirely new images with each of the candidates as the American public latched onto their favorite. Looks, and image all played an important part in how the public was attracted to a favorite.

Reality shows, makeover shows, top model creations, and films we can't wait to be released so we can see what new adjustment has been made to our favorite star's face, hair, or body. Hairdressers, plastic surgeons, and medical spas have become a regular expense in the budget of today's women, sometimes starting as early as high school!

The art of primping has taken on a whole new meaning. Primping is no longer a five or ten minute act of adjusting our hair or makeup throughout our day. We now go over every inch of our body with a magnifying glass. Have we taken the female prerogative of primping to a narcissistic extravagance?

All eyes are on American women. Outside of the US, young women know every word Lady Gaga sings even though they often don't have a clue what she is saying. Fashion, who's who and how to, are talked about daily on Twitter and Face book... in every language! Arab women, who never show the public world what they look like behind the veil, are beginning to rank in numbers that compete with American women at the plastic surgeon's office. And recently in Istanbul: a fashion show? Amazing!

Has all this primping been taken over the top? It would be difficult to find fault in any of it, because women look fabulous. Regardless the ages, the women of today are drop dead gorgeous! Who cares that it's not all real? We appear to have achieved it all. But can we keep it up?
We must!
What do you think?

Health: Just Add Vodka!

Herbal medicine has been around since the beginning of time. Boiling the leaves, roots, or bark of medicinal plants or trees, into a tea, is not something new to alternative medicine practitioners. But have you ever tasted some of those teas? YUK!

Step inside of a Chinese medicine store in any Chinatown in the US. What an amazing knowledge the herbal pharmacist has of the herbs. Drawers and drawers of berries, roots, sticks and stones, and once I even saw some very expensive snake skins in one of the drawers. But, that is the way it has always been done. Boil the stuff, hold your nose, and drink it down.

Did you know that nearly all the prescription drugs in the US were originally formulated from plants? But then there was no money to be made in boiled roots and leaves so the medicinal plants were synthesized, patented, made into pharmaceutical products, and then controlled by doctors.

But there is one other way to obtain herbal health without popping pills, or boiling a pot of witches brew, and then trying to swallow it: Tinctures. You know, just add vodka!

A tincture is a way of extracting the most powerful usage of the medicinal properties by allowing the herbs to steep in 80 - 100 proof alcohol. The procedure is rather simple, and usually takes about one month to extract pure essence of the medicinal properties. (Follow the simple video instructions on tinctures, above).

Or, you can try one of the wonderful herbal teas prepared especially for the purpose of a tincture: just add vodka or rum. Actually the rum helps to curb the flavors of strong herbs, but Tea Forte is a company that has prepared rather delightful tasting herbs that are complimented perfectly by vodka.

And so, whether you choose to make your own concoctions, or purchase a relaxing or soothing tea needing only a martini glass and a little vodka, you no longer have to rely only on popping pills to comfort some of your health needs.

Fitness without the Sweat!

Yeah right!
No, really.

Don't you just love the way your body feels when it moves and sways without all the jiggle? Feeling and looking fit is not about being thin, or mighty muscles; it is about being fit.

Being fit is about keeping all the body parts functioning optimally. Eating correctly and partaking in regular exercise. Gosh how we all groan at a phrase like that.

While pregnant with my first child, I made the decision to make a few changes in my health habits. Drinking lots of water was the first issue I addressed. I learned that it was the intake of water that was going to produce lots of milk in my body when I was ready for it, and not drinking milk, as many women told me. Not only did the increased intake of water produce lots of milk after childbirth, but it also helped my intestines to flush foods through my body better, and my skin looked incredible. I later learned about the 'desert syndrome' most people's organs suffer from.

Once I fugured out how to help the inside of  my body, the issue of the outside of my body was becoming more apparent. I realized I would have no control as to the increase of my belly, but for sure I could address all the other body parts and make them fit.

Out of necessity I formulated a perfect fitness program I knew would work for anyone.
Yes, anyone!
More Water.

Anyone who does not exercise regularly can attest to the fact that they often feel sluggish, stiff, flabby, and tired. Water made perfect sense as a place to immerse the body and feel weightlessness. But there are so many obstacles that keep most people out of the water: they can't swim, they don't want to get their hair wet, they feel ugly in a bathing suit, and so many other excuses.

But guess what? Water is the best place to build strength in your joints, provide agility to your spinal column, increase the heart rate, circulate blood, burn fat, and get fit. And... you never feel the sweat!

Some of the prettiest athletic bodies are of those women who swim. A swimmers body formulates beautiful tone and muscle structure all over the body at the same time. From the ankles, straight up to the neck, muscles are called upon to move the body through the water.

And so, I devised a water program that would do all the above, but would specifically be designed for people who can't swim, don't want to get their hair wet, are pregnant, aging, or are smart enough to know that water fitness is actually the most perfect fitness program for all times of a person's life.

My Essence Fitness Program evolved out of all the concerns I believed all women would address at one point, or another in their life. The key to building muscle mass and toning the curves in the body was to work with restraining tools while standing or floating in the water. The routine can be as gentle or rigorous as each individual requires. The end results are fabulous, and work for a life time.

Thirty years, and four children later, I still use the same program with fabulous results. My body feels fit, strong, healthy, and I am always told I look fifteen to twenty years younger than my real age!

Summer is a great time to begin the program with easy access to outside water, giving you time to settle into a routine with this program. When the cold winter months arrive, there are many indoor pools available through fitness centers, colleges, the YMCA, and even some hotels which will allow usage of their indoor pool, especially if you organize a small group of friends for a class using their pool, and then enjoy a coffee or tea after, in their cafe.

Don't ignore the simple needs of your body. Thinking Water, both inside and out, is a smart way to go!

Haircare Products: Professional vs. Drugstore

Beauty salons retail the finest haircare products for the individual concerns of their clients. Or do they?

Less than ten years ago, drugstore chains and supermarket chains vied for equal rights to retail many of the same professional products once sold only in a salon.
  • Matrix - Amplify, Biologe, Curl Life, Sleek Look (all Matrix)
  • Aveda
  • Bed Head
  • Big Sexy Hair
  • Bumble and Bumble
  • John Frieda
  • Nexxus
  • Paul Mitchell
  • Rusk
  • Sebastian
Once again, mass distribution and big business replaces personal attention, quality, and proper education. Many salons require their hairdressers to attend professional product education programs so that they are best able to guide clients with educated information on home maintenance products.

Fortunately there are many salons that still seek out the finest products for their clients, and take the time to educate their clients how to use them and why.
These are just a few products that excel in special formulation and performance.

Have a chat with your hairdresser and ask them to provide for you, quality haircare maintenance that can not be purchased next to the toothpaste, and deodorant!

Beauty with Brains!

Do you have both? If not, why?
In today's world in which women have infiltrated virtually every arena in the work world, the journey to arrive here often came with a price. The loss of femininity... Beauty.

Women felt compelled to ditch their beauty - once only revered for their 'T&A' (tits and ass) - and be taken more seriously for their brains, something only men were once thought to have.

But now that the pendulum has swung from one extreme to the other, it appears to be finding its resting place somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately, as in any war, many were lost in the battle.

Brains are something that must be cultivated, educated, and stretched to their maximum potential. At that, we are said to only use less than 10% of it, at best. Ever wonder what is going on in the other 90%? Hah! A topic for another discussion.

Beauty is also something that must be cultivated as well. Plant a bunch of beautiful spring seedlings, ignore them, and see what turns up in the heat of summer!

The Beauty Salon is, and has been for centuries, the place a woman can go to be cultivated.
  • Hair - in all its glory can become any color, any shape, and produce any effect... and then changed back to its original state. So why do 99% of women choose a mold? You know, look like e.v.e.r.y.o.n.e. else! Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Twiggy, Cher, and even Cleopatra caught attention because they created their hairstyle outside of the norm from their era.
  • Skin - good, bad, or nondescript, can be nourished, softened, lightened, darkened, or painted on. It too captures the eye: one way or another.
  • Body - big, small, muscular, or bony can become yet another signature of a woman.
But what do you get when you combine a refined finished specimen of a magnificent woman... with intellect, common sense, awareness, and brains?
Fear!
Other women fear the competition.
Men, who say it is what they want in a woman, fear it when they encounter it.
Fear.
Why? Because it is powerful, and like most forms of power created by human-kind, we don't know what to do with it when we have created it.

And so, my original question to you: do you have both, and if not...why?
Examine yourself and the woman you want to be.
And then step out into this world and don't be fearful of what others will think of you, or do with you.

The side of a mountain of rocks, is a nondescript mass of land, until a glimmer of something shiny amongst the mass, catches your eye. When set apart from the rest, cut, buffed, and molded into something very different... you just may have cultivated yourself: A Diamond!

Moisturizers: Which One is Right for You?

Moisturizers. So many choices, so many effects. Sometimes the best way to know which moisturizer to use is by doing a personal research of ingredients, and their effects on the skin. But where to go for such information? Perhaps that answer is only a click away. Moisturizers is a culmination of ingredients and their use, gathered from one of our dedicated Beauty Shop Buzz Fans, Lacey Rubin.

Lacey has compiled a wonderful array of information to help with the confusing decision of moisturizers and their proper use. She has taken the 'think work' out of the equation, and simply gives the facts:
  • We're Sensitive Souls, moisturizers for sensitive skin
  • Is Natural the Solution for you
  • Don't Let Oily Skin Drag You Down, moisturizers for oily skin
  • Time Moves Too Fast, anti-aging moisturizer
And much more.
With more attention and more awareness focused on Green Beauty well informed consumers can then make well thought out purchases.
