As a hairdresser, we learn to read the body language of clients based on the way they present their appearance. But if we could step into your bedroom, what do you think we would discover about you, based on its appearance? Our outward appearance is a reflection of our inner-self. The areas we occupy frequently become an extension of our outward appearance. So, the question we are asking you, to ask yourself: What does your bedroom say about you?
How is your health? How well do you sleep? How is your love life? Issues from these questions can all be addressed by transforming your bedroom, (the place you spend one third of your life), into a Feng Shui Bedroom.
So what exactly is this funny word, ‘Feng Shui’ anyway? In short, it is an ancient system of laws governing energy flow based on favorable or unfavorable arrangement of visual things: our appearance, our homes, offices, work space, car, or any area we spend time in.
Would you like to create a bedroom that has a harmonious flow of energy? How about energy of passion, romance, or peace? There are two particular areas that can quickly help you to understand how to re-arrange your bedroom, or maybe even your life:
• Opposing Forces – Yin and Yang
• The Five Elements – Water, Wood, Fire, Metal, Earth
Yin and Yang is simply ancient words that describe opposing forces: hot/cold, male/female, sun/moon, you know, opposing forces. The five elements are the vital aspects of our existence. We rely on these elements everyday for life. Notice, I did not include plastic!
The first thing that has to go in your bedroom if you want to create positive energy: is the television. Okay, I heard you groan. Or, at least you have to cover it when it is not being used. The same is true if you have arranged your computer in your bedroom. Just think about it: the cares and worries of the world do not belong in your bedroom. An elderly Italian woman once told me: “Bedrooms are for sleeping and making love, nothing else!”
Yin and Yang energies are easily incorporated into your bedroom in a balanced and harmonious way.
• Yin energy is - female, the moon, soothing colors, soft fabrics, plants with rounded edges, dim lighting, and the such
• Yang energy is - male, the sun, strong colors, fabrics of dominant texture, plants with spiked edges, bright lights, and the such
Balance the yin and yang in your bedroom using a blend of these concepts above. But then there is more: the five elements.
• Water – can easily be incorporated with the use of a water fountain: large or tiny. It can also be simply in a clear vase in which the water can be seen, or a clear glass pitcher of drinking water displayed on a tray with glasses
• Wood – is an easy element to incorporate through the use of wood furniture, but be certain not to dominate the room with heavy pieces because it will create too much yang energy
• Metal – follows the same principle as wood, and can accent without dominating
• Earth – brings wonderful energy into a bedroom through the use of plants, and through color. It is said that the colors dominating a bedroom should be those of the flesh: from pale white, rosy pinks, to deep chocolate browns
• Fire – is my favorite, and can be easily presented through the use of candles, (read our January post - Candles For Energy) unless you are lucky enough to have a fireplace in your bedroom. But remember to balance your use of fire, because the passion you bring into your room will bring a little fire of its own
The concept of Feng Shui throughout your living areas can be developed in more intricate ways as you begin to realize how affective these simple transformations can be incorporated in, and among your taste and style.
The energy we create in our bedroom has an uncanny way of manifesting itself throughout all other areas of our life. Tell me I’m wrong!

1 Response to Feng Shui Bedrooms: What Does Your Bedroom Say About You?
Thanks for this article...
I love the decorating concepts of Feng Shui. In fact, I am an artist and I use Feng Shui in my art. I've written articles on that subject for my blog, FineArtTips.com.
But, after reading the above, it reminds me that my bedroom could use a little 'male' energy! ;-)
